How to get ranked on Google and top search engines
Getting ranked on top search engines seems like a daunting task. I mean, there are literally billions of websites out there to compete with, but how do I get ranked on google? Whyshould I try to get ranked on google?
Well, think about it. When you do a search on Google or a large search engine, how many pages do you skim before clicking on a link to find your answer? Most of us would answer “no farther than the first page!” Being ranked on google equals LOADS of FREE TRAFFIC!
Yup…it's free traffic! See the benefit in doing your research on keywords?
You will find many companies out there claiming to send you thousands of traffic to your site. But beware….the majority of these are bot traffic that does absolutely no good for your website. Now there are some paid traffic programs like google adwords that work really well in some cases, but the best and most successful long term approach to getting good solid traffic to your website is through KEYWORDS!
Researching keywords and what to look for
If you're not familiar with what a keyword is, I'd suggest doing some research on the definition, then come on back here to follow along! For sake of this conversation, I'm going to show you the best keyword research tool today.
First of all, a keyword research tool is an online software that allows you to type in a stream of keywords, and it will result in showing you approximately how many times that phrase or word is researched monthly, how much traffic you can expect from using that keyword, and how many competitors you might be up against for that keyword.
Jaaxy.com is THE keyword research tool that has set the stage for all other keyword research tools out there. They do just as described above; they allow you to type in keywords that relate to your topic and return how often that term is searched each month, how much traffic you can expect, as well as how many competitors you are up against. Type in a keyword below to test them out!
Along with that, they will also show you multiple other potential phrases that you could use related to your searched keyword.
A few things to look for when doing keyword research are the following:
- The more traffic the better! There are some keywords that have thousands of potential traffic visitors, but also have thousands of competitors and would be very hard to get ranked on Google with. Which brings me to my next point:
- If you can aim to find a keyword that has competition below 100 along with a decent amount of traffic, you've got a winner!
- Ideally a good number to keep in mind for traffic is at least 50 visitors. To be honest, any traffic is good but to optimize to the fullest, you will want to at least have a keyword that brings in 50 visits per month.
- The keyword should make sense. Don't choose keywords that have bad grammar and spelling. Although often they may have high amounts of searches, Google has 10 PhDs in grammar and will notice that quickly, giving you less credibility.
So long story short, in a perfect world we would ideally want a keyword that A) Has above 50 visitors of traffic per month B) Has as little competition as possible (below 100, but in some cases up to 300 might be OK) C) Has good grammar and spelling.
Following this formula when writing content for your website is your best bet to long term traffic results despite whether google changes their algorithm for searches or not!
What do you do with these keywords anyways?Well now that you've done some research on your keyword search terms, what do we do with them?
You will want to use your keywords within your content posts. Here's how. First, probably the most important place to insert your keyword is in the title of your article, page or post.
Again, think about the last time you searched something on Google. Which link did you click on? Did it include your keywords you typed in the search bar on Google? I'd bet its safe to say that 95% of you said YES! So be sure to include your keyword in your title.
Secondly, in a very natural way, you want to use your keyword a second time within the first 250 words of your page, post or article. Again, think back to your recent search, did the website explanation include your keywords below the link summary in Google? Most of the time YES!
Now, you will read tons of information out there that will tell you to stuff your article with tons of different keywords. DON'T DO THIS! Google is smart enough to recognize someone trying to game the system. A long time ago this may have worked, but not anymore. Here's why…
The Do's and Dont's for keyword research
Google wants to make sure that when you type something in the search engine, it wants the absolute most relevant content to appear first. How frustrating would it be if you typed in “how to repair your smart phone”, and the search engine results were a bunch of companies trying to sell you a new smart phone, not show you how to repair it?!
You see, when you stuff your articles with keywords it creates an unnatural flow of content, and it tells google that you are simply trying to get ranked rather than sincerely help your readers answer a question, or provide information about the searched topic.
It comes down to this: Include your keyword once in the title, once in the first 250 words of your post, and then write your article as naturally as possible. Is it OK to include a keyword here and there? Of course, but don't stuff your article with these keywords. Make sure they are relevant, and more importantly that you simply write naturally!
